deepCT is a project that E Fitz Smith started on a cold winter day, inspired by both the stark and softer lighting cast upon these monuments to Connecticut's manufacturing past - the factory.
The factory has been a favorite subject for E Fitz Smith, begining with a series of drawings of the Kentile Floors factory in Brooklyn. This is one of the places where her father had worked.
From colonial to contemporary, the architecture of the factory remains simple - it's the building where people and elements enter in - and new things come out.
Now these factories are old things. Yet they retain the promise of new beginings - by virtue of their yet-to-be-named purpose.
They are an unopened gift.
